Kenya hosts ALLPI training event

The Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute (ALLPI), formerly known as COMESA-LLPI, held a training course for senior tannery technicians at Kenya’s Nakuru Tannery at the end of February.

A total of 10 technicians from across Kenya took part in the session, organised in collaboration with the Kenya Leather Development Council and Turkish company United Chemicals.

ALLPI has said the purpose of the training was to enhance the productivity and quality of finished leather production in the country. It covered wet blue to crust and crust to finished leather operations.

The COMESA-Leather and Leather Products Institute (LLPI) announced in February that it would change its name in order to “enhance its global outlook and to widen its mandate in line with continental dynamics”.

The change will also allow non-COMESA countries to join the organisation in order to develop their leather industries.
