Kenya tannery project revived thanks to international backing

The World Bank and the European Union has agreed to provide Kenya with funding of more than $2.5 million to go towards the building of a tannery and a meat processing plant, according to reports in local media.

The funds will go towards completion of a stalled tannery project in Mogotio and the construction of a meat processing plant in Marigat. Both towns are in Baringo Country, one of Kenya’s 47 counties.

The aim of these two facilities is to enable local livestock farmers to add value to the meat, hides and skins they produce. The region has abundant supplies of cattle, goats and sheep.
