Plans for new tannery in Kenya

The local government in the Narok County area of Kenya has put in place plans for the construction of a new state-of-the-art tannery, according to local media reports.

It is expected to process hides and skins from the area as well as from the Nakuru, Nyandarua and Kajiado counties.

The reports have suggested investment in the new facility will total 1.2 billion Kenyan Shillings (just under $12 million at current exchange rates). 

Once complete, it will reportedly produce 4,000 tonnes of leather per year.
