USAID agrees partnership with African leather groups

The USAID East Africa Trade and Investment Hub is teaming up with COMESA/Leather and Leather Products Institute (LLPI) to collaborate on leather projects in the region to boost trade and investment with and within East Africa.

Kanini Mutoni, team leader of USAID, said it is committed to work in the leather sector focusing on investment and trade.

Prof Mwinyikione Mwinyihija, the executive director of COMESA/LLPI, said its membership of the International Council of Tanners and International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies will enhance efforts to develop the leather sector.

Delegates at the meeting agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding.

The main focus is on the East African Community countries - Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda as well as Ethiopia, Madagascar, Mauritius and the Seychelles.
