Kenyan banks back scheme to fund leather SMEs

27/08/2015
Leather footwear and leathergoods companies in Kenya might be eligible to share £300,000 in funding, if a scheme put forward by COMESA-Leather and Leather Products Institute (COMESA/LLPI) is agreed by banks and government representatives.

Members of interested parties including the Kenya Leather Development Council joined experts at a meeting in Nairobi to discuss how to boost the sector and agreed in principal to the initiative.

If successful, LLPI will look to roll it out to leather businesses in central and eastern Africa.
