09/07/2015
Press in Zambia have reported how the country is to share a grant from the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Leather and Leather Products Institute (LLPI) to help develop its leather industry.

COMESA-LLPI representative Awlachew Ayenew told press: “We will support value addition processes, improve access to finance and policy enforcement so that Zambia can join countries like Kenya, Sudan and Ethiopia that have made great strides in the development of their  respective leather sectors.

“The leather value chain in Zambia has potential to grow given the ever-growing livestock sector in the past years, which has led to the increased production of hides and skins.”

A draft strategy earmarks help for leather-focused SMEs to help them become more competitive.
