Ethiopian tannery tour sparks leather deal in Sudan

Reports from Sudan say an official agreement to develop the leather industry has been signed by the government, the Chamber of Leather and Shoes and representatives of COMESA (Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa).

A tour of tanneries in neighbouring Ethiopia, as part of the recent All African Leather Fair, prompted the action.

The government is considering setting up a tannery in the capital Khartoum and reportedly say the industry could be as beneficial to the county as petrol, if developed correctly.
