Turkey keen on Ethiopia’s leather and footwear prospects

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has signed a memorandum of understanding with Ethiopian counterpart Hailemariam Desalegn, in a bid to increase trade, and the countries have singled out the skins, leather and footwear industries as ripe for investment.

The Turkish prime minister, on an official visit to countries in the Horn of Africa, stated trade between the countries will increase from $400 million per year to $500 million “very soon”.

Mr Desalegn praised their “excellent bilateral relations” and said Turkey has also been investing in infrastructure projects.
