Pittards funds new classroom for Ethiopian school
20/11/2014
A special opening ceremony took place in mid-November for a new classroom and office at the school, built with 100% funding from Pittards. Previous projects have included the initial construction of the original school building, the provision of teaching and sports materials and inviting teachers to eat every day at the tannery’s canteen.
Former managing director of the Pittards Ethiopian Tannery, John Moriarty, was able to preside over the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new classroom. Mr Moriarty retired in 2013, but paid a return visit to the tannery during a recent holiday in Ethiopia with his wife, Maeve.
Local television cameras were in place to capture the occasion and to help spread the news of the tannery’s ongoing support for the community with which it shares resources.
