Press in Sudan have reported the value of the country’s leather exports fell by $10 million last year to $47.6 million.

Leather technologist Al-Fatih Abu Rafad presented a paper to the Investment Promotion Commission that showed raw hides exports decreased from 4,730,765 tons in 2013 to 2,396,035 tons, a difference of 50%.

He said the country’s 28 tanneries are running at about a quarter of capacity, due to a lack of investment and high duties.
