Ugandan government ban movement of cattle to contain FMD

The Ugandan government has banned the movement of cattle across the east and north east of the country to contain an outbreak of foot and mouth disease.

"Transporting animals from one area to another for sale, for example from Uganda to South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, has laid an open ground for the epidemic to spread," the state minister for Animal Industry, Bright Rwamirama, told local press.

Regional governments have been appealing to the Ministry of Agriculture for additional support to help pay for costly vaccines.
