South Korea finds foot-and-mouth disease in cattle

Foot-and-mouth disease has been identified in cattle in a farm in South Korea about 100km south of Seoul.

The disease was discovered in hogs six months ago and 26,000 were slaughtered as a preventative measure, reported Reuters.

The discovery in cattle is a blow to the government, which had been attempting to contain it. Last February, it offered help to North Korea in a rare move, as the country had an outbreak in its pig population.

South Korea’s beef and pork imports rose during 2014 on speculation of problems with supply.
