Zimbabwe says foot and mouth will not spread to South Africa

14/09/2015
The government of Zimbabwe has assured South Africa and Botswana that an outbreak of foot and mouth disease is being contained.

It has banned movement of all cattle near the border with South Africa, which had an outbreak in 2011 and certified as being free from the disease in February 2014.

Deputy agriculture minister Paddy Zhanda told Reuters the government was vaccinating all cattle in the affected and neighbouring areas.
