Foot and mouth disease reported in South Africa

21/12/2015
Local press have reported a herd in the Limpopo region of South Africa have been confirmed to have foot and mouth disease (FMD) caught from wild animals.

As the cases were in a protection zone, it does not affect the country’s FMD-free status, they said.

There has been concern this year about the disease spreading across boarders from Namibia and Zimbabwe.

More than 10,000 cattle will be vaccinated during December.

FMD is an infectious and sometimes fatal viral disease that affects cloven-hoofed animals.
