Almost 90% of cattle in 22 Brazilian states will have been vaccinated against foot and mouth disease during May, according to local reports.

Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply targeted 198 million cattle and buffaloes, part of an aggressive two-year plan to eradicate the disease.

Foot and mouth is an infectious and sometimes fatal viral disease that affects cloven-hoofed animals.
