Design na Pele heads to New York furniture fair

19/05/2017
The Design na Pele initiative, a project coordinated by the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) that draws on the inspiration from fashion and design to promote innovation in the leather sector, will display examples of its work at the forthcoming International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York (May 21-24).

Design studios from across Brazil have worked with furniture companies and tanneries to develop collections that have leather as their principle material. The aim of the partnerships was to create pieces that add value to the hides, while also reflecting Brazilian culture and design.

Design na Pele will have an exclusive space at ICFF to show buyers, architects and press the results of these collaborations. Among the articles on display will be chairs made from Pirarucu fish skin.

The Brazilian tanneries whose work will be shown in New York are: JBS Couros, Curtume Rusan and Cortume Krumenauer.
