Design na Pele project focuses on innovation in furniture

Design initiative Design na Pele, which is coordinated by the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB), has announced a new partnership with a furniture company. It will have leather as its principal raw material.

The initiative draws on inspiration from fashion and design to promote innovation in Brazil’s leather sector and boost imports.

The latest partnerships sees the bringing together of furniture company Sandrin, tannery Curtume Rusan and design studio Lattoog. Together, they will create a range of furniture with a focus on innovation, one of Design na Pele’s major aims.

“We’ll have one of our stronger articles – suede – where we rarely see it, like on furniture and cushions”, said Rusan director Camila Koefender.

“Leather brings infinite opportunities; when we thought we knew everything about skins, Design na Pele proves that we were wrong”, added Leonardo Lattavo, a partner of Lattoog.
