Brazil’s hides exports dip in value

16/05/2017
The value of Brazil’s hides exports for April fell 8.1% compared with the same month last year, despite the volume rising 1.5%.

The Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade, and Services has published figures showing 16.2 million square metres were exported, worth $161.6 million.

"This scenario reflects the momentum of the world leather market, with average prices falling. In Brazil, this factor is further combined with an unfortunate exchange rate," said Rogério Cunha, of the Trade Intelligence department of tanning association CICB.

Companies from Rio Grande do Sul exported 19.1%, São Paulo 18.9%, then Goiás (15.8%), Paraná (12.1%) and Bahia (7.2%).

China took a quarter of Brazilian skins in the first four months of the year, while Italy took 16%.
