CICB emphasises importance of furniture sector

Five Brazilian tanneries are to participate at the forthcoming Interzum furniture fair in Cologne, Germany (May 16-19).

Their participation is part of the Brazilian Leather project, an initiative established by the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) and export promotions agency Apex-Brasil that aims to promote leather exports.

CICB has described Interzum as “the world’s leading fair for providers and buyers of furniture and interior decoration materials”. It takes place every two years and includes a range of events dedicated to the furniture sector.

"As this sector is less sensitive to instant trends than many other leather clients, Interzum has become a necessary moment for evaluating the market and what buyers of this type of material will be looking for in the coming years," explained CICB executive president José Fernando Bello.

He added that the furniture segment is a crucial one for the Brazilian leather industry, as nearly 20% of all the leather produced in Brazil is destined for this market.

The Brazilian tanneries that will participate at Interzum are: Fuga Couros, JBS Couros, Luiz Fuga, Indústria de Peles Minuano and Nova Kaeru.
