Zimbabwe pavilion to debut at APLF
04/02/2016
Tanneries Wetblue Industries, Global Tanners, Tambudze Tanning, Uonamidezigns and Belmon Leather will be in attendance.
During 2013 and 2014, tanners in Zimbabwe received support from United Nations agency International Trade Centre (ITC).
The main purpose was the improvement of hide quality, particularly focused on skinning and conservation techniques. In collaboration with the Zimbabwe Leather Development Council (ZLDC), training booklets were translated into the local Shona and Ndebele languages and 1,500 copies were distributed to butcheries, abattoirs and traders.
In addition, the ITC held four training workshops in rural areas and donated 200 professional flaying knives to rural butchers, which provide the majority of hides.
Earlier this week, we reported that Tata might buy a tannery in the country.
