Training institutions urged to adapt to needs of leather sector

The chairman of the Leather Institute of Zimbabwe (LIZ), Cornelio Sunduza, has urged training institutions in the city of Bulawayo to adjust their curriculums so that they better suit the needs of the leather and textile sectors.

Mr Sunduza made these comments after Bulawayo was granted Special Economic Zone (SEZ) status for the leather and textiles sector. This is expected to attract increased investment to the area and help restore its status as a manufacturing hub.

Mr Sunduza said the LIZ had already adopted a number of resolutions on the training of local people in the design and manufacturing of leather products. He added that it is searching for international organisations willing to assist in this training. It hopes to empower local people by giving them the skills to become leather artisans, he said.
