The first phase of the multi-year project will focus on the north of the province before it is extended to other areas. It is supported by the African Development Bank.
“The idea was to implement as soon as the launch was done, and I believe things are moving on the ground,” Dr Bimha was quoted as saying by local media. “What I can say for now is that there is a lot of work being done on the ground and we are just waiting for the progress report, which we hope to get in early next year, so that we can see what has happened so far.”
The province of Matabeleland has good quality livestock and the project aims to improve the competitiveness of its beef and leather value chain. The Zimbabwean government believes these industries can play a crucial role in the recovery of the national economy.
