Speaking to local media, the cluster’s secretary, Fungai Zvinondiramba, explained production was supposed to begin two weeks ago but that the facility should now be ready within the next two weeks.
He said the factory will create around 200 jobs and will have the capacity to produce more than 150,000 pairs of shoes annually.
Equipment for the new facility was provided with help from the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa). It included a sole processing machine and a shoe last machine.
