Namibian tannery offers services in rehabilitating former prisoners

Namibia’s Meatco Tannery has donated hides to a scheme that trains former inmates to make leather shoes.

The Correctional Services’ scheme had struggled to acquire good-quality leathers, according to local press.

Commissioner James Adams said: "The process is now made one step easier by this donation from Meatco. It is very difficult to get animal skins that are ready for the making of an end product."

Meatco has also offered to train members of the scheme in its tannery, said the reports.
