A cooperative called the Uganda Meat Producers Cooperative Union (UMPCU) has said it is finalising its plans for $7 million investment in an up-to-date abattoir.

At its annual general meeting in the capital, Kampala, the cooperative approved the idea, saying it would help farmers earn twice as much from meat and hides as they do at the moment.

UMPCU confirmed that it has already acquired land in the area around Nakaseke, a town in central Uganda, for the construction of the new facility.
