Boost for Ugandan cattle keepers

The establishment of a free zone industrial park in the Ugandan district of Nakaseke will benefit cattle keepers by allowing them to add value to their produce.

The Kaweweta industrial park will be developed by ASB Group of Companies, a Turkish group who this week received the land title certificate for 18 square miles from Uganda’s minister of finance and economic planning, Matia Kasaija.

"This initiative ushers in a critical investment in manufacturing and agribusiness, particularly livestock and meat production in the country. The project will accelerate infrastructural development, create over 10,000-15,000 jobs," said Kasaija.

The Uganda Free Zones Authority (UFZA) is to oversee the development of the site’s infrastructure, which will focus on beef processing and value addition. Over 200 Turkish companies will be involved during the various stages of the project. Organisations operating within the free zone will be granted special tax exemptions as an incentive to produce for export.
