Sudan could do much better in leather

20/05/2013
The secretary general of the Sudanese Leather and Footwear Association, Mohammad Suleiman Hassan, has put the number of tanneries operating in the country at 18.

He said the capacity of these facilities varied and that some were limited to producing wet blue.

Mr Hassan said that currently the leather sector in Sudan contributes $40 million annually to the country’s export revenues, but said this could go much higher if Sudan could find a way of maximising the benefit of its large cattle, sheep and goat herds.
