Tanzanian tanners struggle to shift wet blue

09/11/2015
Tanneries in Tanzania are sitting on stocks of wet blue that they are unable to shift, according to a report in local industry magazine African Leather.

It quoted Joram Wokari, secretary of the Leather Association of Tanzania, as saying demand from China, which buys 80% of the material, has dropped away since June, leaving many working at a reduced capacity.

Only five or six containers are now leaving for China per week.
