Boost for Tanzania’s leather industry

Reports from Tanzania say the government plans to build or upgrade tanneries in 75 municipalities to give the country’s leather sector a much-needed boost.

The Minister of Livestock Development and Fisheries, Titus Kamani, announced a training scheme for 130 people and said farmers will be educated about protecting skins.

He added there would be tighter controls at slaughterhouses to prevent skins being smuggled over the border.
