Seychelles: Fish leather to provide extra income

Women’s organisations Entreprendre Au Feminin Ocean Indien Seychelles (EFOIS) and COMESA Federation Of Women In Business (COMFWB) Seychelles hosted a three-day training programme to teach women and young people how to process fish skin to make the most of the byproduct from the fishing industry.

Phillippe Michaud, a consultant at Seychelles’ Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy, said this will open avenues for new businesses and help the community and country, reported local press.

James Ambani, CEO of Ambani Fish Leather in Kenya, which produces fish leather for bags, belts and sandals, told attendees that the fashion industry seeks sustainable stories and "as Seychelles is big on fisheries, this is another way to create something of value added to the industry”.
