The COMESA-Leather and Leather Products Institute (LLPI) held a training session at the ISCAE Institute in Djibouti at the end of September to teach local artisans basic vegetable and chrome tanning techniques.

The training was organised in collaboration with various local government ministries and with financial support from COMESA’s Regional Integration Support Mechanism programme.

A total of 25 artisans attended the session, where they learned how to process hides and skins to the crust leather stage using vegetable and mineral tannins as tanning agents.
