USMEF regional director aims to educate customers

The US Meat Export Federation (USMEF) new regional director for Mexico, Central America and Dominican Republic believes there is still “significant room” to grow exports to the region.

Oscar Ferrara took up his new role at USMEF in Janaury. He has previously worked for the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the US Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS).

“In my position with FAS, one of the main priorities was to open markets and expand market access for US pork, beef and lamb in the Western Hemisphere,” Mr Ferrara said. “I feel this experience will serve me well at USMEF, as we look to further expand demand for these products.”

He added that the key to building on the success USMEF has already had in this region is to better educate customers about the full range of products available from US suppliers. He believes there can be better distribution of information regarding the “unique attributes of US meat” and the different methods of preparation and cooking.

He also highlighted the importance of maintaining strong relationships with importers, processors and distributors in the region through reliable and consistent service.
