November “a very strong month” for US beef exports

10/01/2017
The US exported beef worth $619.1 million in November 2016, a 21% increase on the same month of the previous year and the best figures since December 2014, according to the latest data from the US Meat Export Federation (USMEF).

Exports were also up in value, rising 20% year-on-year to 155,335 tonnes, making it the best month since July 2013.

Shipments to Japan were up 63% in volume and 58% in value in November, while South Korea set a record for annual imports of US beef in value. With figures for December still to come, the country imported US beef valued at $929.3 million during 2016. It is on course to become the fifth market in which US beef exports have exceeded $1 billion in a single year.

Philip Seng, USMEF president and CEO, said the US has an “outstanding opportunity” to grow its market share in established export destinations, as well as exploring emerging markets.
