09/11/2016
The US exported 101,24 tonnes of beef during September, a slight dip compared to August but 27% higher year-on-year, according to statistics released by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The value of these exports was up 17% to $533.3 million.

“Red meat exports continued to build positive momentum in September, and it couldn’t come at a better time,” said Philip Seng, USMEF president and CEO, adding that the industry was seeing “expanded opportunities in international markets”.

The year-on-year growth of beef exports to Japan and South Korea was described as “tremendous” by the US Meat Export Federation (USMEF). Exports to Japan grew 49% in volume and 32% in value, while South Korea imported 75% more beef at a value that was 83% higher.
