USMEF event celebrates return of US beef to South Africa

The US Meat Export Federation (USMEF) has held its first South Africa Seminar and Buyers Reception to mark the return of US beef and pork to the country.

The event in Johannesburg gave US meet exporters the opportunity to meet with potential South African buyers. As well as one-on-one business meetings, USMEF staff were on hand to give technical advice and assistance to traders interested in accessing the re-opened market.

“This was an opportunity to not only build and establish relationships, the event also provided valuable information for buyers in South Africa and helped reacquaint them with high-quality US beef and pork,” said Dan Halstrom, USMEF vice president of marketing, who said there were "promising future opportunities" in the country.

South Africa reopened its market to US pork and beef at the start of 2016. Both had previously been prohibited for several years.
