USMEF eyes “new opportunities” for US beef in Cuba
22/11/2016
While Cuba has been open to US pork and beef shipments for many years, “several barriers exist that continue to inhibit exports”, USMEF has said. It cited difficulties for Cuban buyers to secure financing for meat import projects and the requirement that all US goods entering Cuba must be imported through a state-owned entity, Alimport.
However, it said new opportunities are beginning to surface in Cuba because of the rapid increase in tourism and surging investment in the country’s hospitality industry.
