US beef exports continue strong start to 2017

The US exported 99,786 tonnes of beef in April, 13% more than during the same month of 2016, according to data from the US Meat Export Federation (USMEF).

The value of these exports reached $550.4 million, 14% higher year-on-year. In April, exports accounted for 13.6% of total US beef production. 

Japan continued to be the leading market for US beef, with exports increasing 15% in volume and 17% in value. There was also strong growth in the South Korean market, with exports up 8% in volume and 17% in volume. 

Exports to Hong Kong saw significant gains as well, with respective increases of 73% and 67% in volume and value. USMEF said that “excellent results” in the Philippines and Vietnam drove exports to the ASEAN region to more than double the levels of a year ago in volume.
