Japan growth shows Asia leads the way for US beef exports

10/04/2017
The US exported 90,417 tonnes of beef during February, a 9% increase compared to the same month is 2016, according to data from the US Meat Export Federation (USMEF).

The total value of these exports was $508.5 million, 16% higher year-on-year.

Japan strengthened its position as the most important market for US beef, with exports increasing 48% in volume and 55% in value.

There was also “strong momentum” in South Korea, where exports were 11% higher in volume and 26% higher in value. US beef exports to Taiwan grew 33% in volume and 26% in value.

“With trade deficits being a hot topic of conversation, it’s important to highlight the sectors in which US products are competitive throughout the world and exports are thriving,” said USMEF President and CEO Philip Seng. “The red meat sector is certainly in that category.”
