The group from Roubiki was welcomed by the president of Assoconciatori, Ezio Castellani, before visiting research centre POTECO, a purification plant and some tanneries.
Rana Prataph Sing, UNIDO industrial development manager, said: “With the support of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, UNIDO is developing an eco-industrial area in Egypt. The one in Roubiki is specifically structured to meet the needs of the leather industry.
“We were able to gain valuable insights, starting from the illustration of the best practices in the sector up to visiting some of the major industrial plants in the leather supply chain.”
Mr Castellani added that the Tanners Association has always been willing to share best practices. “We believe in the validity of this project with UNIDO and we remain confident that opportunities for our entire district can arise from this type of dialogue,” he said.
