Overseas delegations tap Italian tanners for ideas

Bernd Oellermann, director of Regional Industrial Clusters for South Africa’s Deptpartment of Trade and Industry, and Marcella Uttaro of South Africa's Commercial Office discussed how Italy’s know-how in water purification could be useful to tanneries in Cape Town, and in turn how a closer tie-up could provide markets for Italy.
A Chinese group from Fuxin wished to hear about Tuscan tanners’ environmental strategies, as the government there is focusing on tannery clean up.
Among the visitors were Richard Yan and Wang Dan, whose tannery Richina is expanding in Shanghai and has a new site under construction in Fuxin.
Richina was shortlisted for China for the 2014 and 2011 Tannery of the Year programmes.
