Italy: Tanners and shoemakers to determine environmental impact of leather shoes
07/10/2015
Franco Donati said Santa Croce’s tanners ensure compliance with environmental standards that are rarely replicated in other industrial environments.
“Efforts, it should be emphasized, that are not always known even by experts, as evidenced by the fact that many customers from all over the world are amazed by our ability to provide high-quality leather with an industrial system in which environment and enterprise live together in a virtuous synergy."
The project involves 22 tanneries, five waste disposal groups, two shoe factories and two footwear component makers.
The idea is to work out the environmental impact of a pair of men’s shoes across the supply chain, including tanning, assembling and components.
Findings will be shared with the EC.
