Italian politician Deborah Bergamini, a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, has met with the leaders of Italian tanners group Assoconciatori and had a tour around the tanneries and the treatment plant, calling the district a “business model that deserves to be recognised”.

She said she will invite other members of the Council to visit the district.

Assoconciatori president Franco Donati said: “It is important that a wider audience becomes aware of the results we have achieved in this tannery district. And this recognition will lead to greater protection of our industry in terms of European law."
