Children’s enthusiasm for tannery project is our reward, says Assoconciatori

Santa Croce tanneries have hosted more than 200 schoolchildren over the past year as part of an initiative that introduces them to the area’s leather tradition and encourages employment within the sector.

Amici per la Pelle has involved 4,000 families in Santa Croce sull'Arno over its eight editions, and tanneries including Miura, INCAS, Pegaso, CMC Gruppo Conciario and BCN, as well as the Poker and Fratelli Vanni shoe factories, have opened their doors.

During spring, days of the project are dedicated to illustrating the industrial purification system, central to the dynamics of the district.

Roberto Giannoni, vice-president of tanners association Assoconciatori, said: “Amici per la Pelle explains the complexity of the tanning industry without being too heavy for children. The enthusiasm they show is a satisfaction that repays the commitment and the efforts needed to support this project.”
