Italian tannery Sciarada has celebrated its 40th anniversary by commissioning a six-metre steel sculpture by Tuscan artist Marco Puccinelli.

Ezio Castellani, owner of the Castelfranco di Sotto-based tannery, unveiled the artwork, a letter S, saying it would make the area next to the tannery more attractive.

Local press reported that the mayor of Castelfranco, Gabriele Toti; the president of the Regional Council of Tuscany, Eugenio Giani; and the director of UNIC (Unione Nazionale Industria Conciaria), Fulvia Bacchi, were in attendance.

Mayor Toti said: “This is not just an accessory for a tanning district that works with luxury labels and is frequented by customers from all over the world, this is a tribute to Castelfranco.

“Companies in the leather supply chain make up the fabric of our region.”
