New Craft The Leather competition begins
Tuscany’s Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale (Consortium for Genuine Italian Vegetable-Tanned Leather) has launched the 2017 edition of its Craft The Leather competition, the sixth time it has run the programme, which aims to introduce young designers to the qualities of veg-tanned leather.

The 2017 programme began with workshops and visits to tanneries in the Consorzio in mid-May with students and teachers from ten design schools around the world travelling to Italy to take part. Students now have until the winter to design and make products using veg-tanned leather each contestant selected during the visit to Tuscany. The winner of this year’s programme will be named at the February 2018 edition of Lineapelle.

Schools taking part this time are:

- Bunka Fashion College, Tokyo – Japan
- Central Saint Martin’s, London – UK
- Design School, Kolding – Denmark
- Fashion Institute of Technology, New York – US
- Hiko Mizuno College of Jewelry, Tokyo – Japan
- Hochschule für Künste, Bremen – Germany
- Istituto Europeo di Design, Madrid – Spain
- Rhode Island School of Design, Providence – US
