Relocation of Cairo tanneries to new district continues

10/10/2017
The Egyptian minister of industry and trade, Tarek Kabil, has said the second phase of a project to relocate tanneries from the old leather district of Cairo to the new Roubiki leather city on the outskirts of the capital is underway.

Mr Kabil has explained that the first phase saw a total of 116 production units being allocated to tanneries. The Egyptian government offered help to the first ten tanneries to transfer and install their operations at the new site. This was designed to encourage them to complete the move quickly.

The Ministry of Industry is now offering land plots for the second phase of the project. Mr Kabil has said the process of connecting utilities for these units is already taking place and is expected to be completed by March 2018.
