Some Cairo tanneries close to completing relocation

The Egyptian minister of industry and trade, Tarek Kabil, has said he expects operations to begin at five tanneries in the new Robeeky industrial zone by the end of May.

Tanneries based in the old leather district of Cairo are in the process of relocating to this new zone in the Egyptian capital.

Mr Kabil said the first batch of tanneries have nearly completed their move, with the government helping them to transfer machines and equipment. It agreed in January to assist the first ten tanneries that agreed to relocate their operations; this support included sharing the cost of transporting equipment.
