Incentives for Cairo tanneries to relocate

05/01/2017
The Egyptian government has approved a package of incentives for the first ten tanneries that relocate their operations from the old leather district of Cairo to the Robeeky industrial zone of the Egyptian capital.

The announcement was made by Tarek Kabil, Egypt’s Industry and Trade minister. He said the incentives include technical support and financial assistance.

Mr Kabil added that the initiative will stimulate further investment in the new tannery district as the launch of the first ten factories will encourage other tanners to relocate.

It has also been announced that Egypt’s second largest bank, Banque Misr, will help the tanneries in Robeeky to purchase land and machinery through low interest loans.
