Egypt leather exports down 31.5% during first eight months of 2019

Leather exports have declined by 31.5 percent during the first eight months of 2019, Egypt Today reports, which Export Council for Leather Industries president Mahmoud Serg attributed to the decline in global demand for leather.

The decline is in part a result of the decline in the quality of Egyptian leather, due to the lack of sponsorship of livestock in Egypt; this has caused a negative impact on exports, despite the rise in production in Roubiki, according to Egypt Today.

Mr Serg called for the Ministry of Agriculture and Veterinary Quarantine to take into account the situation of livestock in Egypt, as the decline in the quality of leather reflects a deterioration in animal health.
