This facility is operated by a subsidiary of parent company Daimler known as Beijing-Benz Automotive Co. (BBAC).
The new A-Class is already in production at plants in Germany, Hungary, Finland and Mexico. The first vehicle rolled off the production line in Germany in April.
Mercedes-Benz’s decision to expand production to China is the latest stage of its ‘Made in China, for China’ initiative, which now sees five models made locally. BBAC recently reached the milestone of two million locally produced Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
Upon making the announcement, Hubertus Troska, Daimler board member responsible for Greater China, said: “Since our first locally produced Mercedes-Benz rolled off the production line over a decade ago, our business has shown rapid development here in China.”
He added that the aforementioned two million vehicle milestone “clearly shows the impressive growth” of the company’s business in China. He also thanked local customers for their support.
